3 Easy DIY Home Building Project

Something for The Weekend? Check Out These 3 DIY Projects You Can Cram Into Two Days

Want to transform a room, but don’t really have the time? Don’t worry, you can do more than you might be imagining, with some planning and dedication!

Follow our three tips for an instant transformation to your home, this weekend!

CONCRETE OVER AN OLD BATHROOM TOP

Don’t much like the counter top in your bathroom, but don’t have the time, energy or frankly, the money, to change it completely.

You don’t have to. You can simply pour concrete over the top of it and allow it to set. It can be colored to your specifications (hint, you will need masonry paint and some extra time set aside for priming, preparing and drying it).

Also remember to use a sealer, to ensure a long life of your new surface.

Sound too scary to attempt yourself? Maybe it’s time to let the professionals have a go, in the guise of a home building company. Thailand has many, of course, and finding someone qualified to do the work should not be hard. (But do check their credentials first!). Check on Seaconhome for their features.

DESIGN YOUR OWN PIPE SHELVING

The industrial look is big for 2019 and what says it better than a tasty bit of piping shelving?

If you didn’t know before, piping can make excellent shelving and it will certainly ring the changes in your lounge!

It’s really not that hard to put together an entire bookshelf which covers a whole wall, and the great news is that it shouldn’t cost more than $200!

It’s also easy to do, if you’re savvy about where to get the materials from.

This means visiting scrap yards and using freecycle, and simply even just being cheeky and asking if you can take things, when they’ve been put out on the street as rubbish.

One thing it needn’t do is break the bank – or take forever to install on your wall.

Check out plumber’s yards and be on the lookout for items such as old stair treads. Perhaps it’s worth a call to a home building company, if you have used one already when designing your home, try them. Otherwise, Thailand has many and they may be happy to supply you their leftovers!

PAINTING A WINDOWSILL

Not got time to paint the whole room?

You can transform the look of a room by painting the windowsill and this should fit neatly into a weekend.

Why not choose a bold color, to really make a statement with?

Just about anyone can do this and there shouldn’t really be any need to trouble a home building company in Thailand to do it for you.

All you need is a spackle, drop cloth, sand paper, a sponge, some white vinegar, painter’s tape, wood primer, the paint of your choice and a cup for the paint.

Then you need a putty knife, sanding block and the right type of angle paint brush.

All this is pretty simple stuff and should be found easily in any home builder store across Thailand.

Firstly, put the drop cloth down in front of your window and get off the old paint with your scraper. Don’t be too forceful here and only get off what is chipped and already peeling.

Now use the spackle to fill in any small holes and then dry it. Next sand the patched areas so they are smooth and get it ready to be painted.

The sill and frame should now be properly cleaned with the white vinegar and water. Hint, if it’s draughty in there, now is the time to seal them with caulk.

Remember to use the painter’s tape to protect the edges of the area you’re working on.

Take the angle brush and use the wood primer and allow it to dry thoroughly. You will want an angle brush because of all the little crannies in between the sill and trim.

Finally, you should be now ready to paint the window sill the color of your choice.

Ideally you want the paint you use to be hardwearing and easy to clean – that’s why we chose a semi-gloss.

Don’t forget to take the tape off, as you allow the paintwork to dry!
